It been a week full of movies. Watched POSEIDON yesterday . The movie has big stars and yet movie is named after the ship , which means the ship should create an impact in the minds of the viewers. But the director has failed to do this. Moreover you don't even feel sorry when it capsizes and when people are dying. Its a failure due the less sensitive screenplay of the movie. The movie wasn't boring , it atleast had the momentum.
Tomorrow I am traveling to chennai. This time by car. I love this journey a lot . Its a very nice drive but I do have fear of speed . I googled for the phobia - Tachophobia.Heard its very hot and humid inspite of intermittent rains.
After a great effort completed my appraisal. Its the most boring aspect of the job. I sometimes feel it like trumpeting your achievements. I think actions speaks better than words. Picked up couple of books and need to finish them. "The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference " is one book which I need to buy but couldn't find time to go to the book shop. Happened to read couple of pages of this book and liked it a lot.
I was going through one of my friends blog who is a big time F1 fan and there was a mention of soemthing on the number of cylinders in the car . It reminded me of the interviews that I had given once for the current company. In my company there are close to 8 -10 rounds of interview and I was somewhere in the 7th level. I was already very exhausted with the techie interviews. And at that level I was interviewed by a guy from HQ (obivuosly US) and he was a very sweet person. For once he didn't want a technical interview. So this guy started asking some weird questions and I was answering them methodically. He zeroed finally on my hobby and I mentioned that I like driving and told him that I love to take my car for long drives. This guy again asked what car I drive , I told him I have a Maruthi Zen. So this guy asked me immediately , how many cylinders does Zen have . Trust me I just know how many tyres my car has . So without hesitating I said 16 .Poor guy he couldn't laugh loud but today I can imagine his expression . He politely said that I might have to find it out. When I told my dad of this question and my answer , my dad was so furious and said no idiot would offer me a position in his company . I got the job later -thats history. The day I joined the company and had my first team meeting with the HQ members this guy asked me if I found the answer luckily I had. My team still makes fun of me for my answer.
Today my cook made a dish - Baigan Bharta. I learnt this recipe from him and googled a bit and came up with this recipe . For once a vegetarian dish.
Ingredients:
1 large Brinjal
2 tablespoons Oil
1 pinch Asafoetida
1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
1 large Onion
1 tablespoon Chopped ginger
1 teaspoon Chopped garlic
1 teaspoon Green chillies
1 large Chopped tomatoes
1 teaspoon Chilli powder
1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon Garam masala and Salt to taste
Method :
1. Wash and wipe the brinjal. Roast it over direct flame for a few minutes, turning it often so that it cooks evenly. Roast till the brinjal shrinks, blackens and starts peeling off. Cool, peel and mash the brinjal.
2. Heat the oil in a pan.Add the asafoetida and cumin seeds and saute till the seeds are light brown in colour.
3. Add 1/2 the chopped onion, ginger, garlic and green chillies. Saute on a low flame for about 5 minutes, stirring continuously.
4. Add the chopped tomato, mashed brinjal, chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt. Cook covered on a low flame for about 5 minutes.
5. Mash the brinjal thoroughly with the back of a ladle and add the remaining onion. Cook on a high flame for 2 minutes, stirring continuously.
6. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and green chillies.
